Updating your kitchen sink is an easy way to make your kitchen more attractive and practical. Whether you need something to help with cooking for a large family or simply want a sink that is more up-to-date, professional Houston sink installation can help you rest easy knowing your sink is installed right the first time. Keep in mind there are lots of types of sinks to choose from! We’ll go over some of the most popular ones.

Need Houston Sink Installation?

If you need a new kitchen sink, professional Houston sink installation is the way to go. We know DIY can be rewarding, but replacing a sink can be a really complex job.

Here’s the problem: each sink is a little different. So, what you need to do depends on a lot of different things.

For example, you’ll need to consider where it’s located, the counter opening, how big the sink’s holes are, how many holes there are, and so much more. Keeping track of all this information can quickly get out of hand unless you have years of knowledge and experience under your belt.

Also, your kitchen sink is arguably one of the most important sinks in your home. It gets a lot more use than a lot of your other plumbing. Improperly installed sinks can leak and cause major water damage. The wrong sink may be more prone to clogs, putting your kitchen out of commission frequently for clog removal.

Instead, professional Houston sink installation can help you have peace of mind that everything is expertly installed, sealed, and ready to use.

Why You Might Need a New Kitchen Sink

If you’ve made it to this page, then you’re likely in the market for a new kitchen sink for one reason or another. Some common reasons you might be replacing your sink include:

  • During Houston kitchen remodeling for an updated look
  • Your sink doesn’t fit your needs for cooking or doing dishes
  • The kitchen sink is damaged and can’t be repaired easily

Our professionals are here to help make replacing your kitchen sink easy and affordable.

Keep Some Things in Mind for Houston Sink Installation

Working with our plumbers can help make sure Houston sink installation goes smoothly for your home. However, if you’re thinking about buying the sink without our expertise, there are a few things to keep in mind to help your project be a success. There are three situations we commonly see that may cause issues when you’re hunting for a kitchen sink. Remember, you want your new sink to be both beautiful and functional.

Measure Before Choosing a Deeper Sink for Houston Sink Installation

If your current sink isn’t quite deep enough, you’re probably looking for a deeper one. It makes sense, especially if you’re regularly washing large pots, pans, slow cookers, and other dishes. Before you go out and choose the deepest sink you can find, either measure under the sink or check with your plumber.

The problem that a lot of people run into when going with a deeper sink is that the bottom of the sink will run right into the existing Houston kitchen sink plumbing. In some cases, our technicians may be able to simply lower the exposed pipes. However, in other cases, you’ll either need to get a different sink or we’ll need to lower the drainpipe that goes into the wall.

Save yourself some time, hassle, and money by checking how much room you really have for a deep sink.

Choose the Faucet and Accessories Before the Sink

Another issue many people run into during Houston sink installation is forgetting to think about the number of holes you need in the sink. Many come with pre-drilled holes for the faucet, faucet handles, and other things like sprayers and soap dispensers. Drilling holes into a new sink is difficult and sometimes downright impossible.

Now, if you have too many holes in the sink, there is an option to cover them. However, this generally throws off the look of the sink and it’s often hard to find cover plates that match the sink.

So, we generally recommend picking out the faucet and accessories before buying your new sink. This will help you know exactly how many holes you need so you can choose the perfect kitchen sink for your needs.

Replace the Drain Assembly during Houston Sink Installation

We get that you don’t want to spend any money that you don’t have to, but it’s typically worth it to replace the drain assembly during your new Houston sink installation.

The drain assembly is what connects the sink drain with the drain pipe for your plumbing. Even if your current one looks fine, the threads may be corroded. If this is the case, then it may not fit tightly on your new sink and make it more prone to leaks. Replacing the drain assembly is generally a quick, easy, and inexpensive job, so it’s often worth the peace of mind that you have a leak-free sink.

Types of Kitchen Sinks

There are many different types of kitchen sinks to choose from, each with pros and cons. You’ll need to consider the kitchen sink material, mounting style, and the number of bowls you want. Then you can choose the perfect sink for your dream kitchen.

Materials

First off, think about the type of material you want your kitchen sink to be made of. This will affect how easy it is to clean, how durable it is, and more.

The most common materials for a kitchen sink include:

  • Stainless steel
  • Cast iron
  • Granite composite
  • Copper

Stainless steel is one of the most common types of kitchen sink materials. It’s durable and lightweight, which makes Houston sink installation a little easier. However, keep in mind that it can be a bit noisier than other sinks. Generally speaking, the heavier gauge of steel you use, the more resistant it is to noise, scratches, and dents.

Cast iron is another common option. Typically cast iron sinks are coated with a special enamel to prevent rusting and make them easy to clean. Because cast iron is so tough, it’s almost impossible to crack or break, though the enamel can chip with force. However, in some cases you may need additional support systems built for these types of sinks because they’re so heavy. They also tend to be more expensive than stainless steel.

Granite composite sinks are a mix of granite and resin. These are great because they’re scratch, stain, and heat resistant. They also come in a wide range of colors. However, like cast iron sinks, they’re generally more expensive and heavier, which means you may need to build structural supports for them.

You might also choose copper for your sink. This is great for rustic- and industrial-style homes. They’re gorgeous and durable but come with some of the same issues of stainless steel. They can be loud and lower-quality copper sinks may dent. Also, over time they’ll develop a patina, which many people love, but it’s important to keep this in mind.

Houston Sink Installation Mounting Types

Also, how your sink is mounted will generally affect how long it takes to install the sink and how much it will cost. It’ll also affect the overall look of the sink.

There are three ways to mount a new kitchen sink:

  • Drop-in mount kitchen sinks
  • Undermount sinks
  • Farmhouse sinks

Drop-in mount sinks are just like the sound: you drop them into a pre-cut opening in the counter top. They have a rim that sits on top of the counter to support them. Houston sink installation is generally much easier with drop-in mount sinks. However, many people dislike these because the rim can start to collect crumbs and water and they don’t provide a seamless look for the countertop.

Undermount sinks, by contrast, are placed underneath the counter top. This makes installation a little more tricky. We generally recommend waiting until starting a whole Houston kitchen remodeling project before installing a new undermount sink, because we’ll need to pull up the countertop and glue the sink to the bottom of it.

The great thing about undermount sinks is that you can sweep crumbs and debris on your counters directly into the sink, as there’s no seam or rim that interrupts the process. However, they can start to accumulate gunk under the countertop at the seam where we install it.

Finally, farmhouse sinks are a very popular option for kitchens. These are typically quite big and have an exposed front. This can help you get closer as you’re doing dishes, which can help reduce fatigue. However, Houston sink installation for a farmhouse sink can be a little more difficult. First, they tend to be heavy, so they need extra support, sometimes even needing special under-sink cabinets. Also, you may need to cut your countertops to accommodate the sink.

Number of Bowls

In addition, make sure you choose the right number of bowls to make your sink as functional as possible. There’s no right or wrong answer to how many bowls you should have, this all depends on you and how you use your kitchen.

Generally, you can choose sinks with anywhere from one to three bowls.

Single-bowl sinks tend to offer plenty of space for washing large dishes like pots, pans, and casserole dishes. However, if you don’t have a dishwasher, it can make it difficult to wash and rinse dishes at the same time.

Double-bowl sinks feature two bowls. They can be about half and half, or one bigger and one smaller. These are popular because it allows you to separate different tasks. For example, one bowl can be where you wash, and the other bowl can be where you rinse and dry dishes.

While somewhat less common, you can also get triple-bowl sinks. These generally have two large bowls on either side and a smaller bowl in the middle. With this type of sink, many people use one bowl for washing dishes, one for rinsing, and one for food prep and washing their hands. This is great if you frequently do a lot of cooking and entertaining!
